Thomas Anthony Commercial Accountancy Services Ltd

in need of a business partner?

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH

Sometimes a traditional finance person is not enough. As a business seeks to create efficiencies, survive in an increasingly competitive environment and grow good business into long term success there is a greater need for control, strategic review and a detailed longer term plan.

As I looked in the market place I could find many services to support the necessary accounting that businesses need and also corporate Finance Director support. However, this is not aligned to the needs of an SME who do not need or want the 'corporate approach' at 'corporate prices'. Instead they need something that is tailored to their business, does not become a burden and does not create huge amounts of additional work.

Sometimes a smaller business needs a Commercial Accountancy Professional who understands this and, equally important, is someone that they can get on with on a personal level where they can build a relationship of trust to know that they will do what is best for the business and owners. The business may need this professional on a part-time or project basis, they also need flexibility and that is where I can support you and your business. If you call this role a Finance Director role or a Business Partner role it doesn't matter - it is about delivering what you and your business need so you can get on and manage your business and realise your long term business strategy.

Based in the Thames Valley region I can support you and your business on a part time, ad hoc or project basis and flex around your needs. If you need support email me to discuss the available options at enquiries@thomasanthonycas.co.uk.

ABOUT ME:

Having trained as a Chartered Accountant in the profession working with clients ranging from small businesses to larger limited company organisations I then made the decision to move into industry and that was over ten years ago. Since then my career has been broad and varied which has given me great experience in small organisations to large FTSE listed businesses.  Industries include hi-tech start-ups, telecommunications, film and television, business outsourcing and hospitality. This has meant travelling on a national and international basis to get to the heart of where business support is needed and also to build relationships with my customers.

Working in such varied environments has enabled me to enhance my ability to question and understand an organisation and its requirements. This allows me to quickly get up to speed and start to put processes and controls in place to enhance financial governance that lead to supporting the successful delivery of financial and commercial information. Budgets, forecasts, long range plans, management accounts and management information form part of the suite of documents that are absolutely critical for any organisation to understand where they have been, where they are and where they are going.

I pride myself on delivering to deadlines and a ‘no surprises’ culture which enables me to foster a pro-active approach to business change and future successes.

examples of services delivered:

  • In a regulated outsourcing business, identified then realised cost savings and reviewed all financials to identify the margins for each business stream. This led to a revision in pricing strategy and the first tender win in two years. Before accounting for this win the changes I made added 1% margin to the bottom line.
  • Completed a financial forensic assessment for a new luxury hotel complex to assess the viability of the project. The model built required the detail to go as deep as modelling room occupancy by day in an average year and covers in each restaurant per sitting. Linking through to cash flow this identified the level at which the hotel needed to operate to allow the operating model to be financially viable in the long term.
  • Negotiated a complex case where a customer had been overbilled and refused to pay any charges. As the business year end approached non-payment would have resulted in a bank facility covenant breach. Having to quickly build a credible relationship I secured an initial £600k payment at year end and the final agreed settlement two weeks later. This management resulted in a satisfied customer who came back to do business two months later.
  • Streamlined the preparation of a quarterly management reporting pack to remove duplication across departments. Resulted in faster preparation, more efficient use of staff and cost savings as additional heads were identified as no longer being required.
  • I have run group finance for non-finance training sessions and also undertaken one to one training and mentoring in each business I have worked with. This enables staff to understand that virtually everything they do has a financial consequence and they can impact the wider business. In each case a reduction in costs and a change in habit has been witnessed.
